Golden, Colorado Golf Courses

When we tell people our beautiful inn is nestled among the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, they often picture an old rustic log cabin surrounded by hundreds of acres of pure wilderness. Nothing within any reasonable distance but elk, deer, trout, and maybe an ornery bear or two. You can drive 500 miles without seeing pavement, let alone a stoplight, right? And if you’re a golfer? May as well leave the clubs at home. But as you’ll see when you come visit us in Golden, Colorado, our inn is not only ideally located for all of the activities that are traditionally associated with Colorado, but we’re convenient to a lot of more urban pursuits as well - including, of course, a good variety of golf courses.

Sitting just 15 minutes from downtown Denver, we’re close to a lot of courses in the western, north-central, and northwestern parts of the city. But we are also proud of the links that are closer to home, as well. Applewood, Foothills, Fox Hollow, and Fossil Trace golf clubs are all in the immediate, surrounding areas and between them offer a golfing round that can be enjoyed by those at any skill level.

Fossil Trace, in particular, has received a lot of attention since its completion in 2003 including a spot in the “Top 10 New Courses You Can Play in the US” by Golf Magazine, “Best Course in Colorado under $50″ by Colorado Golf Magazine, and the “2004 Best Golf Course in Denver” by Westword. Obviously, Golden has something to offer the golf enthusiast.

Fossil Trace
Fossil Trace Golf Club in Golden Colorado is the latest achievement in Jim Engh designed championship golf courses. Nestled adjacent to the foothills of the Rocky Mountain Front Range, you will enjoy a golf experience that is truly one of a kind.
From the simplicity of a 100 yard par 3 to the cruelty of a 659 yard par 5, Fossil Trace offers every level of player a unique and yet satisfying challenge. Length of the hole is not your only concern as the undulation of the greens combined with the treachery of the 10 foot deep fairway and greenside bunkers will test even the most accomplished player.Twenty-foot tall pillars of sandstone emerge from #12 fairway, demanding that each player be respectful of the 64 million year old trace fossils of palm fronds and triceratops footprints located adjacent to #12 green. Several massive relics of clay mining equipment remain throughout the course as a reminder of the rich history of the property.
